Innovation: Total Water Storage Change Analysis from GRACE and Hydrological Modeling

Description & Learning objectives

The GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) satellite mission and its successor GRACE Follow-On perform precise measurements of the Earth’s gravity field and its variations over time, providing global and highly accurate gravity anomalies data, which are used by a range of scientists to study natural processes and global change.

This webinar will explore the use of data from the GRACE satellite mission, including potentials and limitations, for hydrological modeling and hydrological drought monitoring.

Duration

Date: 13/08/2019
Time: 14:00 to 15:00 (CEST)

The webinar will last around one hour. 30 minutes presentation, 30 minutes Q&A.

Speakers

Helena Gerdener
(University of Bonn)

Helena is a research assistant at the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformation at the University of Bonn. She holds a Master of Science from the institute of Geodesy and Geoinformation, and is currently working on her PhD.

Prof. Dr. Frank Flechtner
(GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences)

Frank has been Professor of Physical Geodesy at the Technical University Berlin (TUB) as well as Head of Section for Global Geomonitoring and Gravity Field at the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) since 2013. He has been Co-Principal Investigator on the original GRACE mission and Project Manager at GFZ for GRACE Follow-On. He is also spokesman of the recently established DFG funded research group New Refined Observations of Climate Change from Spaceborne Gravity Missions (NEROGRAV).
